Experiential Learning
Gotham Professional Arts Academy has a strong belief that education extends far beyond the classroom. Throughout the school year, we seek to enhance several areas of our curriculum with visits to cultural institutions in the city and far beyond. We believe that our classes should make students aware of the world beyond our classroom, to encourage them to travel and to question as well as contribute to these new worlds.
Our mission is to immerse students in diverse environments that inspire curiosity and creativity. By engaging with art institutions, galleries, museums, theaters, parks and other cultural landmarks, we encourage students to explore the world outside their immediate surroundings. These experiences not only deepen their understanding of the subjects they study but also foster a sense of global awareness.
We strive to instill a spirit of inquiry, prompting our students to ask questions and contribute meaningfully to the communities they encounter. Through travel and exploration, we hope to inspire a lifelong passion for learning and a commitment to making a positive impact in the world.
At Gotham Professional Arts Academy, we recognize the invaluable role that experiential learning plays in education. Within New York City, our students embark on enriching trips to iconic locations, such as the Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), The Whitney Museum, The Park Avenue Armory, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, the United Nations, and Ellis Island. These visits offer innovative lessons that tap into the cultural and historical significance of these sites, providing both students and teachers with a broader perspective on their disciplines.
On an international scale, Gotham has facilitated exciting educational trips to the UK, Italy, Japan, and Costa Rica. Leading up to these adventures, students engage in after-school sessions to study the cultural, political, and economic contexts of the countries they will visit. This preparation not only enhances their travel experience but also equips them with the knowledge to engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
Through these immersive experiences, we aim to foster global citizens who appreciate diversity, challenge perspectives, and contribute to a more interconnected world.
