Reflecting Upon Beautiful Work

Students who choose to explore art criticism...

spend three years examining artwork, the context within which each piece was created, the social/societal implications of the work and its connection to the contemporary art landscape.  These students, like all Gotham students, visit many of our city's galleries and museums where we leverage our partnerships to expand and deepen our in-class "Art Crit" curriculum.  Culminating PBATs in this area involve the examination and contextualization of artwork, comparative analysis, description and justification of various media/materials used among other analytical processes.  College and career-ready Art Crit concentrators are prepared to support the work of gallerists, museum curators, art researchers and scholars.  They develop transferable research and analysis skills that hold up well across all social science disciplines.
